dill pickles

The dill in dill pickle refers to the herb that is used to flavor the pickle.

A pickled cucumber (commonly known as just a pickle) is a cucumber that has been pickled and left to ferment for a period of time, by either keeping the cucumbers in an acidic solution or through lacto-fermentation.

Dill is an aromatic herb with feathery green leaves. It is a member of the parsley family and is also referred to as the dill weed. Along with the dill pickle, it is also very popular in a number of Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines.
