Short answer: Because it looks like a cob of corn when the candy pieces are assembled.

My mother just told me why it’s called candy corn. The answer is not what I thought it would be.

I’ve always enjoyed candy corn but never understood why it had corn in its name. Corn is yellow, isn’t it? Why is a yellow, orange, and white candy referred to as corn?It doesn’t make sense.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with candy corn, it is a popular candy during the Halloween season here in the U.S. It’s sweet, chewy, and tastes a bit like flavored marshmallow.
